SUPPORT-R-TROOPS
Send Santa to our Soldiers
Support-R-Troops brought Santa to our Troops for Christmas 2007.
Approximately 25-30 parcels arrived in Afghanistan with TONS of little gifts, toiletries, snacks, and Christmas treats. Thanks to everyone who donated, the troops loved getting some Christmas cheer from home.
100% of your donations went directly to
a Section Team in Afghanistan
The group we adopted for Christmas is an ad hoc section team. An ad hoc section team is a unit made up of soldiers pulled from other platoons to fill a specific need where they are. This makes them a really, really good unit for us to adopt for the holidays because they (and their families) don't have access to the support systems that are put into place when a unit is deployed as a whole, and they really need some Christmas cheer.

Here's an e-mail response I received from one of the female soldiers;
I hope all is well with you and yours. Thank you for thinking about me and the troops while we are down range. I am doing fine...we work long hours and go outside the fence a lot but it makes the time pass on this end somewhat quickly.
I would love to receive donations on your behalf in honor of you and your friends for the troops. I know the troops would really appreciate someone taking the time to send them a bit of cheer for the holidays.
It really means a great deal to them when they know someone (other then their families) are thinking of them. The way it is set up here, we have very few deployed groups, so most of the personal here are one person tasking, like myself, tossed in to make up a section, team, company or what have you. So what happens is that many do not get the support of FRGs and all that great stuff that gets put together when units deploy.
Again, thank you for thinking of us and for your support. Thanks. Desire'e
Here's another;
Good Morning, I can not thank you enough for what you are doing for us here. I have shared your page with my folks...that is wonderful. One of my troops said his mother is sending a Christmas tree and I found a tree that was left behind some time ago that I am going to put up in the Conference room.
But honestly, the guys and gals I have are a great group and anything given to them would be greatly appreciated. Just to share a little of our life with you...when the persons who (and most of my persons are between 21-25 years old) get packages from home, they put the contents into a common area location to share with everyone. You would be amazed to see the spirit of these guys and how they pull together and how unselfish they are. I couldn't have asked for a better group.
I have attached a photo (posted above), this is the most recent one I have and it is now outdated. I've gotten some new folks in and some on the photo have departed. This photo doesn't include my Officers. We had just promoted one of my PFC's to SPC on behalf of his unit.
Again thank you for what you are doing. v/r, Desire'e
OK, the "Christmas Stocking" drive has ended. Whew... it's been a blast collecting for this troop. I thank everyone who sent goodies and contributed. We had people from all over the country send donations. Some sent up to 40lb boxes. Thank you!
This troop is going to be overwhelmed with packages. We have mailed appx. 25 boxes (over 300 lbs) and collected a lot of cash to cover shipping and gift purchases.
It has been a blast organizing this and I'm so happy to have had this opportunity to share a little Christmas cheer with our soldiers abroad. We love them and are so grateful for all they do.
I received this e-mail, before Christmas, from a soldier named Claus.
Yes Desire is on extended leave and won't be back for a little while. We did get all your packages, about 20 of them I suppose and Desire emailed me and told me to open them up as they arrive.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
We have opened a few but are saving the rest for Christmas to open them all.
We will be taking photos and if you want I can send them to you.
We really appreciate it!!!!!
Merry Christmas
If anyone would like to send this troop something throughout the year, please e-mail me at sade2u@fancyflappers.com
